A fake report that Dylan Mingo had decommitted from North Carolina spread semi-viral on social media, but a source said the 5-star guard has not made any kind of decision and remains locked in with the Tar Heels.
Mingo, a 5-star combo guard in North Carolina's 2026 class and the No. 2 combo guard in the country in the 247Sports Composite, had been radio silent for a little while after Hubert Davis was fired. He did not expect Davis to be let go, and he had a close relationship with Marcus Paige before Paige left Chapel Hill to join the staff at Charlotte.
The timing matters because North Carolina is in the middle of hiring Michael Malone, and keeping the class together is part of the job. The concern around Mingo was that he might reopen his recruitment, but nothing has been finalized, and Malone will need to connect quickly with Mingo and fellow 5-star commit Maximo Adams as the program sorts out its next step.

For now, the message from inside the situation is simple: Mingo is still in, and the noise around him was just that — noise.
