Sakib Hussain is set to make his Sunrisers Hyderabad debut against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday. The 21-year-old right-arm pacer from Bihar is finally getting his first chance in the IPL after a year on the sidelines with Kolkata Knight Riders.
Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Hussain for Rs. 30 lakh at the auction, bringing him into a side that has moved quickly to hand him a game. Kolkata Knight Riders first signed him ahead of the IPL 2024 season, but he did not get the opportunity to play and spent that year waiting for a call that never came.
Hussain’s rise has been built in the domestic circuit. He made his T20 debut for Bihar in the 2022-23 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, then showed his ability as a teenager when he took four wickets for 20 runs in his second game at the age of 17. More recently, he claimed his maiden five-for in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, taking 6/41 against Arunachal Pradesh.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, the debut is a low-cost punt on a young quick with enough recent evidence to suggest he belongs at a higher level. For Hussain, it is the chance to turn an auction price tag into an actual IPL career, starting on Monday in Hyderabad.
