Police are responding to a possible active shooter situation in downtown Marine City after the incident began shortly before 7 p.m., and officials are asking people to stay away from the area until an all clear is issued.
Cottrellville Township, which borders Marine City, said the public safety incident remains active and that law enforcement agencies continue to respond. The township told residents and visitors to avoid downtown Marine City out of an abundance of caution and said an all clear notification will be issued as soon as it is safe to do so.
The warning matters because the two communities are closely tied by geography and personal connections, which means the impact reaches beyond the immediate scene. For now, the township says only that the situation is still active and that further updates will come as verified information becomes available.
The gap that matters most is the one between the warning and the facts investigators still need to pin down. Until authorities give the all clear, downtown Marine City remains a place to avoid, not a place to gather.
