LSU beat No. 12/11 Arizona 3-1 on Saturday at Tiger Park, clinching the weekend series and giving the Tigers their second Top 25 series win of the season. Cece Cellura worked all seven innings for her fifth complete game of the year, and LSU held on after Arizona loaded the bases in the seventh before Sydney Stewart flied out to right field to end it.
The Tigers, ranked No. 21/18, scored twice in the first inning and added another run in the sixth. Kylee Edwards sparked the start with a triple, LSU’s 17th of the season, and that total tied for ninth most in a single season in the program’s record book dating to 2014. Alix Franklin and Ally Hutchins each drove in a run as LSU finished with three hits.
Cellura improved to 6-4 in the circle after allowing one unearned run and seven hits, while striking out three and walking one. Over her last 35.1 innings, she has 16 strikeouts and just three walks, a run of control that has helped LSU keep winning tight games. Coach Beth Torina said the team is finding ways to win, and that push has been a major emphasis over the last few weeks.
Saturday’s game came in the 14th annual Strikeout Ovarian Cancer Game, also known as the Teal Game, with LSU entering at 28-13 and Arizona at 29-11. It also extended LSU to 11-3 all-time in the Teal Game and marked the Tigers’ first Top 25 series win against a non-SEC opponent since they beat then No. 7 Texas in 2021 at Tiger Park. Arizona’s only run was unearned, and both of its runs in the series were unearned.
Jalen Adams took the loss for Arizona and fell to 16-6 after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks in 6.0 innings without a strikeout. LSU and Arizona will meet again Sunday at 11 a.m. CT on, but the series is already in LSU’s hands.
