William Osula scored in the 43rd minute to put Newcastle United 1-0 up at Crystal Palace, tapping home from almost on the turf after Lewis Miley picked out his run through the centre of the box. The 22-year-old beat Dean Henderson from extremely close range for his first Newcastle goal in a Premier League start.
It was only Osula's second Premier League start, but it added to a growing case for more responsibility. He had already scored three goals for Newcastle off the bench, and this one came at a time when the club had been dealing with a goal drought up front.
That mattered because Newcastle's attack had been under scrutiny, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa struggling recently. A finish like Osula's did more than settle a tight moment at Palace; it also gave the club a fresh option at a position where the goals had dried up.
