Multiple people were shot at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Saturday night, police said, after officers got a call around 10 p.m. about gunfire in the area of Atlantic and 14th Street.
Authorities said the victims were taken to local hospitals, but they did not release an exact number of people who were hurt. Police also said they believed there was no longer a threat to the community.
The Oceanfront had already been the scene of another shooting in early March, when six people were shot there. That earlier violence now hangs over Saturday night’s case, which police said was still under investigation and for which they did not say whether any potential suspects had been taken into custody.
For now, the most important detail is the one police were willing to give: the danger they believed existed on Saturday night had passed, even as questions about how many people were injured and who was responsible remained unanswered.
