Genoa will try to halt a slide when they host Sassuolo at Stadio Communale Luigi Ferraris on Sunday, with the home side coming in after consecutive 2-0 defeats against Udinese and Juventus. Daniele De Rossi’s team are 14th in Serie A with 33 points and are six points clear of 18th-placed Lecce.
Genoa have lost three of their last five league games, but they have been far more reliable at the Marassi, where they have won four of their last six matches. Before the defeat to Udinese on March 20, they beat Roma 2-1 at home, a result that briefly steadied a season still defined by the fight to stay clear of the relegation zone.
Sassuolo arrive with more breathing room after beating Cagliari 2-1 last Saturday. They were behind before second-half goals from Ulisses Garcia and Andrea Pinamonti turned the game around, leaving them 10th on 42 points and 15 points behind sixth-placed Roma with seven games to play. That gap makes a push toward the European places difficult, but it has also underlined how solid their return to the top flight has been in 2025-26.
The trip to Genoa comes with a warning attached. Sassuolo have lost four, drawn three and won just two of their last nine away games, and they have yet to keep a clean sheet on the road in 2026. That record leaves room for Genoa to believe the match can be turned into a grind at home, especially against a side that has shown vulnerability outside its own ground.
Genoa will be without Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Maxwell Cornet because of hamstring and muscle injuries, while Jean Onana is sidelined with a muscular issue. Mikael Egill Ellertsson and Aaron Martin could start out wide, with Morten Frendrup and Ruslan Malinovsky available in central midfield. Sassuolo, meanwhile, are missing Filippo Romagna after a knee injury earlier this week, while Edoardo Pieragnolo and Fali Cande are doubts because of muscle injuries. Ulisses Garcia could also be asked to operate on the left of a back four if required.
The meeting pits a Genoa side trying to create distance from the lower half of the table against a Sassuolo team whose away form keeps them from looking fully secure despite a strong points return. If Genoa cannot use home advantage now, the pressure around the bottom half will only grow sharper.
