has spent the last six months texting audio files of bird sounds, and that odd exchange is now part of the build-up to the 2026 Masters. Day’s latest look for Augusta National Golf Club leans into that obsession, with shirts, vests and a coat patterned with scarlet tanagers, orioles, eastern bluebirds, cardinals, blue jays, golden finch and the red-headed woodpecker.

Malbon said the idea is to keep pushing the edge of golf fashion while drawing from the birds around Augusta. “I’ve been sending the noises of the birds to Jason for the last six months,” he said. Day was supposed to wear a matching pair of pants with the bird print, but the club requested that he wear a solid print instead. The vest he will wear on Wednesday is fashioned after birding jackets and has a pocket for binoculars.

The outfit arrives with the memory of the 2024 Masters, when Day was asked to remove his vest. This time, Malbon is pressing ahead again, using the birds at Augusta as the center of the look and treating the clothing as part style statement, part signal. “He’s like, ‘What is wrong with you?’” Malbon said of Day’s reaction to the bird sounds.

Malbon said the idea goes beyond novelty. “To me, it’s like if Jason knows the meaning of a woodpecker and he's in the woods and a woodpecker flies by, it’s like ‘I can do it,’” he said. He added, “If you are on the course and you are tuned in with nature and know the sounds of birds, you'll make more birdies,” and said, “It’s inspired by Native American beliefs.” He also said, “Each one of these birds has a different meaning,” and, “Hopefully, he’s trying to stay in touch with nature.”

That mix of symbolism and style fits the way Malbon has tried to approach golf, a sport long known for its high cost and its higher barrier to entry at elite courses. By blending cultural touchstones with golf, he is trying to lower that bar while still getting attention at one of the game’s most watched events. The result, once again, is a Jason Day Masters Outfit that is likely to be remembered as much for the story behind it as for what it looks like.
