Tempe is getting ready for the 22nd Annual Pat's Run this Saturday, a 4.2-mile race honoring Pat Tillman that is expected to draw thousands of people.
According to the City of Tempe, roadways in the surrounding areas will be impacted on April 10 and April 11, with certain streets closed from 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on April 11 as runners move through the city.
The annual event has become one of Tempe's best-known public gatherings, bringing race traffic and spectators into the same streets where normal weekend travel is already tight. That means drivers will need to plan ahead before Saturday morning, when the closures are set to hit at the same time the race is underway.
The race's draw is part of what keeps pat tillman's name in public view year after year. The unanswered question for many Tempe residents is less about whether the run will happen — it will — and more about how quickly the surrounding roads return to normal once thousands of participants and spectators clear out.
