Max Strus will start Friday against the Hawks, moving into the starting five with Donovan Mitchell out because of an ankle injury. The lineup change gives Cleveland a familiar scorer at the front of the attack and shifts more of the creation load onto Strus.
As a starter this season, Strus has averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists across 27.3 minutes per contest in three games. Those numbers give the Cavaliers a clear baseline for what they can expect from him in the larger role, while Mitchell's absence leaves Friday's game with a different look than usual.
The timing matters because the team has to adjust immediately, not later in the week or after a longer run of games. Strus has already shown in those three starts that he can supply scoring, rebounding and ball movement in the minutes that matter most when a lineup is short a primary option.

What remains is how long Cleveland will have to make do without Mitchell, and whether Strus' expanded role becomes a short-term fix or a more important part of the team's rotation. For now, Friday puts the burden on a player who has already shown he can handle the assignment.
