Cormac Ryan is getting his first NBA action with the Milwaukee Bucks after being promoted from the club’s G League squad, and he has made the most of an opening created by injuries. In five outings this month, Ryan has averaged 17.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 58 percent overall and 55.6 percent from deep.
That kind of production is why the Bucks brought him up, and why his minutes have become one of the brighter developments in a difficult stretch. Ryan spent most of the season in the G League before getting this look, but he has been among a short list of healthy players and has shown value as a defender, a passer and a rebounder.
The sample is small, but it is hard to ignore what he has done. Back in November, Ryan described shot-making as one of his greatest strengths, and the numbers since then back that up in a way that matters now, when Milwaukee needs every available contributor it can find.

For the Bucks, Ryan’s playing time is both a reward and a test. He has been one of the team’s bright spots down the stretch, and if he keeps producing while the roster remains thin, his case for lasting NBA minutes gets stronger by the game.
