said Friday that she might make a third bid for the presidency, giving her clearest signal yet that she is weighing another run after her 2024 loss to Donald Trump. Asked directly by at the conference in New York City whether she would run again in 2028, Harris answered, "Listen, I might," and then added, "I'm thinking about it."

The remarks drew some of the loudest cheers of any prospective 2028 Democratic contender at the Manhattan ballroom gathering, where chants of "run again" broke out as Harris spoke with Sharpton. The event also featured Govs. of Illinois, of Pennsylvania and of Maryland, along with Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., underscoring how early the party's next presidential field is already taking shape.

Harris said her comments were the strongest and most direct she has made on whether she is considering another campaign. "I served for four years being a heartbeat away from the presidency of the United States... I know what the job is, and I know what it requires," she said, adding that it has become increasingly clear to her that "the status quo is not working, and it hasn't been working for a lot of people for a long time." She said government needs to move faster and that people "don't want process, they want progress," then framed any decision around "who and where and how can the best job be done for the American people? I'll keep you posted."

The comments marked a sharper tone than Harris's earlier public language. In October, she told the that she would "possibly" run for president in the future. Very early polling of a potential 2028 race shows her at the top of the field, even as she carries the baggage of a bruising 2024 campaign in which she became the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden stepped aside under heavy pressure from the party, then lost to Trump. In 2020, Harris dropped out before the primary calendar began and later reemerged as Biden's vice presidential nominee.

did not immediately respond to a request for comment. For now, Harris has done more than leave the door open. She has stepped to the threshold and told Democrats she is thinking seriously about walking through it.
