More than 20 Killeen ISD campuses have been named Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase Schools for the 2025-2026 school year, putting the district among a select group of schools nationwide recognized for creating places where students feel safe, connected and ready to succeed.
Superintendent Dr. King Davis said the recognition reflects what students experience every day in Kisd. He said they are greeted, known and clear on what is expected, and that the result comes from adults being consistent and intentional about how they show up. In his view, that daily routine changes how students learn and how they see themselves.
The honor is tied to school culture, not test scores or athletics, and the district says the work behind it is part of a broader shift across Killeen ISD toward being more intentional about how schools build culture and support students. Capturing Kids' Hearts is a relationship-centered approach that emphasizes welcoming students at the door, setting shared expectations and helping them take ownership of their choices.
That approach appears to be taking hold across the district. Killeen ISD says students feel more connected, classrooms feel more focused and campuses are building cultures where respect and accountability go hand in hand. The recognition also signals that the effort is ongoing, not a one-time award, with the district continuing to lean into a model that places student relationships at the center of daily school life.
For Davis, the message is straightforward: when adults build trust first, the classroom changes with it. That is the standard Kisd is being recognized for now, and it is the one the district appears determined to keep.
