won first place in the Classic Physique division at the in Corona last week, and the 28-year-old walked away with his pro card. It was a fast climb for Baena, who made his amateur debut just last month and has turned that opening run into a breakthrough on the natural bodybuilding stage.

Baena said the experience gave him “moments I’ll never forget” and called the last three months “an incredible experience,” adding that he learned more about training and dieting in that stretch than he had since he started lifting weights. He also said stepping on stage had always been scary, but creating the goal and going for it was one of the best decisions he could have made. “I’m grateful for the experience and grateful for all the people in my corner supporting and cheering me on! Cant wait for what’s next. My message to you is to take that chance and chase your goals and dreams!” he said.

The win follows a strong amateur debut at the Natural Colorado State Championships, where Baena took first place in Men’s Open Bodybuilding Heavyweight, Men’s Classic Physique True Novice and Men’s Classic Physique Novice. He trains at in Venice Beach and has approached bodybuilding naturally, unlike his father, , who has been candid about past steroid use. Last summer, Baena told Entertainment Tonight that he trains with his father and tries to be at the gym every day.

The result gives Baena a path forward in the natural league, but it does not finish the job. To reach , he still has to place highly in forthcoming PNBA shows, with the contest scheduled for November at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. That adds pressure to a run that has already turned attention his way, especially as his father remains one of bodybuilding’s biggest names after winning the Mr. Olympia title seven times, including a six-year streak from 1970 to 1975 and another victory in 1980.
