Jacek Magiera died on Friday, April 10, after collapsing during a morning running training session. He was 49.
Radio Wrocław said Magiera fainted during the workout and was taken to the Military Clinical Hospital in Wrocław, where he died shortly afterward. PZPN confirmed the death and said he was the second coach of Poland's national team. Cezary Kulesza said on X that he had received the news with great sadness and disbelief.
Magiera had served as Jan Urban's assistant since July 17 last year and turned 49 on Jan. 1. The death of jacek magiera cut short a career that had made him one of the most respected Polish coaches of his generation.
He won Polish league titles with Legia in the 2012/13 and 2016/17 seasons, along with four Polish Cup trophies in 2007/2008, 2010/2011, 2011/12 and 2012/13, plus the Super Cup in 2007/08. A youth product of Raków Częstochowa, he also played for Widzew Łódź and Legia Warszawa before ending his playing career at Cracovia.
As a coach, he worked with Legia, Zagłębie Sosnowiec, Śląsk Wrocław and Poland's youth national team. PZPN asked for privacy and peace for his loved ones, and that request now hangs over a football community absorbing the loss of a man who had been part of the sport for decades.
