Kyle Karros was out of Colorado’s lineup Sunday against the Phillies, ending his run as the starter at third base after opening the season there for the club’s first eight games.
The move sent Willi Castro to the hot corner and gave Edouard Julien the start at second base. Karros had opened the year in a 5-for-25 slump, and the lineup change appears tied to that slow start.
For Colorado, the swap is a straightforward sign that the club is looking for more production in the infield right away. Karros had held the third-base job through the first eight games, but Sunday’s alignment showed that role was no longer secure.
The unanswered question is how long the new arrangement lasts if Karros keeps struggling. For now, the message is clear: the Rockies are willing to reshuffle their infield quickly when the bats do not follow the early plan.
