Malevy Leons will start Tuesday’s game against the Kings.
The two-way player gets the nod because Kristaps Porzingis is unavailable with a knee injury and Gui Santos is out with a pelvis injury. Leons also started against Sacramento in that situation, giving him another chance to open a game when the rotation is short.
That previous start came on March 15 in a loss to New York, when Leons finished with two points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 20 minutes. Tuesday gives him another look in a similar spot, with the same absences again clearing the path.

The last time he was asked to start, Leons did the work that comes with the job even if the box score stayed modest. This time, the opportunity arrives for the same reason: the team needs a body it can trust at the first whistle, and he is the player available to answer it.
