Cam Sample has agreed to a one-year deal with the 49ers, giving San Francisco another piece for the defensive line after his time in Cincinnati. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported the agreement.
Sample, who the source identified as a Tulane product, was selected by the Bengals in the fourth round of the 2021 draft. He played for Cincinnati before joining San Francisco, and his move gives the 49ers added depth up front as they sort out the rotation entering the next phase of the offseason.
The 2025 season was Sample’s most recent body of work for Cincinnati, when he posted 17 tackles and two sacks in 14 regular-season games, including two starts. Those numbers suggest a useful role player, but not one who is likely to draw much attention in IDP leagues unless his snaps climb sharply with the 49ers.
That is the real question in San Francisco: whether Sample’s new deal leads to more than depth-chart insurance. For now, he arrives as a familiar veteran body with limited fantasy value and a chance to earn more if the playing time follows.
