The signed to a six-year, $36 million contract that carries a $6 million average annual value through the 2031-32 season, locking in the center after a strong first year in Columbus.

Coyle, 34, had 20 goals and 38 assists for 58 points in 82 games last season, tying his career high in assists and power-play goals while scoring 20 or more goals for the third time in his career. He was acquired from Colorado on June 27, 2025, and quickly became a fixture for a Blue Jackets team that made keeping him a priority.

General manager said Coyle made a tremendous impact on and off the ice last season and called him the definition of a true pro, praising his durability, reliability, production, leadership, character and consistency. Waddell said the club is thrilled Coyle will remain an important part of the Blue Jackets for years to come.

The deal extends a career that began when San Jose selected Coyle 28th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft. He has 209 goals, 334 assists and 543 points in 1,032 career NHL games with Columbus, Colorado, Boston and Minnesota, and he has skated in 411 consecutive games since Oct. 16, 2021, the fourth-longest active streak in the NHL.

Coyle’s durability has long been part of his value. He has played in every game for his team in nine of his 13 full NHL seasons, has appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs 13 times and owns 26-27-53 in 126 postseason games. He also won bronze with at the 2015 IIHF World Championships and played in the 2011 and 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships.

For Columbus, the immediate question is not what Coyle has done, but whether the veteran center can keep producing at the same pace deep into this contract. The Blue Jackets have bet six years on the answer.
