Dwayne Johnson went straight at Draymond Green on Sunday night, using Netflix’s The Roast of Kevin Hart to turn the Golden State forward into the target of one of the event’s sharpest jokes. Standing on stage with Pete Davidson, Jeff Ross and others, Johnson opened with, “Draymond, that’s your name right? That’s my boy.”
He did not stay friendly for long. Johnson said he had been thinking about Green’s name and mocked it as “the laziest” version of a Black name, then added, “This f---er’s r----ded.” He followed that with another line aimed at the Warriors star: “And on top of all that, your r----ded name, your team got bounced from the playoffs.” Johnson ended the bit by telling Green, “So, I’m just saying, because you’re my boy and I love you, maybe it’s time to retire.”
The roast landed on May 10, 2026, and it hit a player who has already been speaking publicly about his future. Last month, Green said he hoped he had done enough to remain with the Warriors, adding that he did not want the team to keep him around just because of what he had done before. He also said that staying in Golden State meant more than playing, calling it leadership and a way to help bring younger players along and move the organization forward.
That context gives Johnson’s joke a sharper edge. Green was selected by Golden State in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft out of Michigan State and has since become a four-time NBA champion and a four-time All-Star. In the 2025-26 season, he averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 68 games, numbers that show he is still contributing even as the question around his place with the club hangs over him. Stephen Curry’s name was not part of the roast, but Green’s standing has been a recurring topic around the Warriors, including in coverage of games such as the loss to the Lakers and earlier matchups in which opponents focused on Curry’s influence.
What comes next is not another punch line. It is whether Green’s next move is another season in Golden State or a break from the only NBA home he has known.
