The Athletics are calling up Henry Bolte on May 11, 2026, a move that puts one of their top outfield prospects on track for his major league debut after a scorching run at Triple-A. Bolte was not on the 40-man roster, but Oakland had a vacancy, meaning the club will only need a corresponding move on the 26-man roster when it formally selects his contract.
Bolte, a 2022 second-round pick, was hitting.348/.418/.658 with a 157 wRC+ in 177 Triple-A plate appearances, and he had hits in 12 consecutive plate appearances. He also had 12 homers, seven doubles, three triples and 17 steals in 19 tries, while walking 9.6% of the time and striking out 22% of the time. His average exit velocity sat at 90.4 mph with a 43% hard-hit rate, and he has played primarily center field.
That production matches the view of Bolte across the industry. He was ranked fifth among Athletics prospects at MLB.com, seventh at Baseball America and tenth at FanGraphs, and he topped Baseball America's latest Prospect Hot Sheet. Baseball America's J.J. Cooper said Bolte is still a bit too prone to getting beaten in the zone, but added that he has developing power and can absolutely punish in-zone mistakes.
The timing matters because the Athletics are not bringing him up to sit on the bench. Bolte is likely to play every day, and he arrives while the club's young outfield has been uneven. Tyler Soderstrom and Lawrence Butler have both been underperforming offensively, center fielder Denzel Clarke has been out for a few weeks with a bone bruise in his left foot, and Zack Gelof has been getting some run in center field in Clarke's absence.
There is another layer to the move as well. Bolte will not have enough time left in the season to accrue a full year of major league service, and if he sticks in the majors he will be controllable six more years beyond this season. Because of the May timing, he would also qualify as a Super Two player if he stays up, making this promotion about more than just one hot week in Triple-A. It is the start of a stretch that could shape how long the Athletics keep him.
