returned to the majors on and gave the exactly the kind of outing that can change a rotation conversation. He worked 6.0 innings against the Reds, allowed two earned runs on three hits, walked none and struck out eight, but took the loss after throwing 76 pitches.

The outing mattered because Henderson did it after a stop-and-start start to the year. called him a popular sleeper pick this off-season and said he had been out of sight after an injury and a month of the season in the minors. On Sunday, he was back in front of the team that needed him most, and the numbers backed up the case: nine whiffs, a 28% CSW and the kind of swing-and-miss stuff that can keep a pitcher in the majors.

Pollack said Henderson has a fantastic four-seamer and a great changeup, but last year he lacked a strong third pitch. That has changed. Henderson now has a sweeper at 80-83 mph with close to 17 inches of sweep and 3 inches of depth, and Pollack said he struck out three batters on eight thrown sweepers. The four-seamer is still sitting at 93 mph with 17 inches of vertical movement. Pollack summed up the package plainly: “This skill set is fantastic.”

The Brewers also need the innings. is out indefinitely, and Pollack said the rotation has questionable starters beyond that. Against that backdrop, Henderson was stretched out to 76 pitches and could be pushed beyond 80 pitches next time out if he keeps performing and holds up physically. Pollack’s conclusion was even more direct: “Grab him. Now.”

That is the real story here. Henderson did not just return; he returned with a usable starter’s mix, the velocity and command to finish hitters, and a path to keep taking the ball. If the Brewers are looking for a pitcher who can stay around for a long time, Sunday was the first strong answer.
