Gasperini said the stakes hardly need explaining. “We know that every match is decisive,” he said, and the line fits a season that has often been defined by pressure rather than comfort. Roma have spent long stretches leaning on sterile possession and moments of individual brilliance, only to turn too many late-season openings into disappointment in past years.
That is why the trip to the Stadio Ennio Tardini matters beyond the standings. Parma are comfortably in mid-table and safely removed from relegation danger, which leaves them with little more than pride to play for, while Roma are fighting for something much bigger after years of frustration in similar positions. The contrast could make Sunday awkward for the visitors if they cannot carry the tempo and precision they showed against Fiorentina.
There is also a more direct reason Roma have reason to believe they can finish the job. Malen, who arrived in January, has led the club with 11 league goals since joining, giving Gasperini a scorer who has changed the shape of their attack. The performance against Fiorentina suggested Roma can move the ball with purpose when they are sharp, but the test now is whether they can repeat it away from home when the table pressure is highest.
For Roma, the next step is not complicated. Beat Parma, keep the chase alive and force the issue into the final stretch. Fail, and the 4-0 against Fiorentina will begin to look less like a turning point than another brief burst in a season that has too often asked them to start over.
