The Warriors and Steve Kerr were still talking about his future this week, with the possibility hanging over Golden State that he may or may not return for a 13th season.
Team owner Joe Lacob said Wednesday that an outcome on Kerr's situation could come “today, tomorrow or in three weeks,” a sign the matter is moving but still unresolved.
Kerr reportedly met with the Warriors’ front office and ownership on April 27, but no decision has followed publicly. The talks center on whether he will be back for a 13th season after his contract expired at the end of the season.
That expiration matters because Kerr had already expressed uncertainty about his future in Golden State after the season ended, leaving the club to weigh its next step while the offseason is still taking shape. The longer the discussion goes on, the more it shapes not only Kerr’s own future but also the direction of a team that has not hidden how closely it ties itself to him.
For now, the cleanest reading is that both sides are still in it, and the answer is close enough to feel immediate without being settled. If Kerr does move on, Golden State would have to look elsewhere, a possibility that has already drawn attention around Todd Golden as a target and sparked reactions to Draymond Green’s defense of Kerr.
The decision could come at any point, but the uncertainty itself is now part of the story.
