San Diego weather stays warm Wednesday before clouds, breeze and weekend rain bring a cooler turn across the county.

Wednesday is shaping up to be one of the warmest days of the week in San Diego County, with temperatures running about 5 to 10 degrees above normal. Highs are expected near 70 at the coast and in the 70s to 80s inland, while the deserts turn much hotter.

A cooling trend begins Thursday, and more clouds move in along with a stronger ocean breeze that will carry into the weekend. Friday is expected to stay dry, including the scheduled for 5:07 p.m. about 60 miles off the San Diego coast.

Rain is expected to arrive late Friday night into early Saturday, bringing the first of two rounds of weekend showers. Another system is expected to follow Sunday into early Monday with more light to moderate rain before San Diego County dries out and returns to seasonable weather next week.

The shift matters because the county is moving quickly from an early-week warm spell into a cooler storm pattern, and the dry window on Friday should hold for the splashdown. After that, the weekend turns unsettled fast, with the first rain arriving late Friday and another round likely before the new week begins.
