Persistent rain and pooling water on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course forced Indycar to postpone NTT P1 Award qualifying for the Sonsio Grand Prix until Saturday morning, May 9. Live coverage is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on FS2, FOX One and INDYCAR Radio powered by OnlyBulls, with the three-round qualifying session scheduled for 10:45 a.m.
The delay came after Alex Palou topped both Friday practice sessions in dry conditions in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. He did it on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course where he has won the Sonsio Grand Prix for the last three years. Coverage will move to FS1 at 11:30 a.m., but the warmup session planned for 11:40 a.m. has been canceled.
The race itself remains on the schedule for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, with 85 laps still on the board. Friday admission tickets will not be honored Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, leaving the program adjusted but not abandoned as teams turn from weather delays to a qualifying window that should shape the front of the field before the afternoon race.
