Tarkov is adding the Icebreaker event in May, a cargo ship map, a Customs mini event, and a season system now targeted for July.

Tarkov Icebreaker event set for May with cargo ship, bosses and seasons

Escape From Tarkov is about to get its biggest event yet, with the development team saying the first official details of were unveiled on a recent stream and that the event is due to arrive sometime in May. The trailer teased a brand new location built around a cargo ship, locked doors that require keypad codes, and even the possibility of new air support options.

The team framed Icebreaker as a new storyline chapter, and said the cargo ship location will not be temporary: it is set to stay in Tarkov after the event ends. That matters because the game’s story content only arrived with last year’s official launch, making Icebreaker the latest step in a narrative system the developers are still building out.

Before Icebreaker lands, players will get a smaller event on Customs that runs for the next few days. During that mini event, two bosses will have a 100% spawn chance on the map, AI scavs will be replaced by their guards, player scav numbers will be reduced, and all AI will attack player scavs. It is a short, harsher setup that looks designed to push players into more dangerous fights while the bigger May event is still ahead.

The wider picture is the shift coming after wipes. The season system expected around July is being discussed as a first post-launch wipe of sorts, but it is not a full reset of every character. Instead, it will add a special season character for everyone to use on seasonal servers that start from scratch, while leaving a player’s core PvP character intact.

That season system could also change how Tarkov is played in ways many players have never had to think about. The developers have said seasonal servers may include no insurance and even modifiers such as allergies to some foods and drinks, with some rules chosen by players and others set globally for everyone. The timing is not fixed, though, and the team has said July is only a likely target that could move sooner or later depending on development.

For now, the immediate story is simpler: a arrives first, Icebreaker follows in May, and the cargo ship is coming to stay. If the team delivers on that plan, Tarkov is not just adding another event — it is opening a new chapter that will keep shaping the game long after the trailer fades.
