The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Los Angeles Lakers 108-90 in Game 1 of their playoff series, handing the Lakers a loss that was built on an uneven night at the offensive end. Los Angeles trailed by eight at halftime and never found enough rhythm to pull back into the game.
The Lakers scored 37 of their 90 points in the second half, shot 41% from the floor, 33% from three-point range and 77% from the free-throw line. Austin Reaves played 36 minutes and finished with eight points on 3-for-16 shooting, while the Lakers’ bench produced just 15 points.
That left the Thunder with room to control the game even as their offense was not that crisp. Jared McCain led Oklahoma City with 12 points, and the Thunder have now won all five of their playoff games while moving through a postseason bracket in which they do not have their second-best player.
The result fits the larger picture around this series. The Thunder swept the Suns on April 27 and came into this matchup with a long break, while the Lakers had played on April 29 and May 1 before Game 1. That difference showed up in the pace and in the legs of a Los Angeles team that was still searching for answers without its best player.
What makes the opener matter is not just the score, but how little margin the Lakers left themselves to work with. They were within striking distance at halftime and still could not manufacture a sustained run, which makes Game 2 look less like a reset than a test of whether Los Angeles can summon a cleaner night against a Thunder team that has not yet lost in the playoffs.
