Apple Settlement: Company to Pay $250 Million Over AI Marketing Claims

By Robert Haines May 7, 2026

agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit that accused the company of misleading customers about when its Apple Intelligence features would be available. The proposed apple settlement covers people in the US who bought all iPhone 16 models and the iPhone 15 Pro between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025.

People who file qualifying claims can receive $25 for each eligible device, though that amount can move up or down to as much as $95 per device depending on how many claims are submitted and other factors. The agreement will resolve a 2025 lawsuit that said Apple’s marketing created a clear and reasonable expectation that Apple Intelligence would be ready when the iPhone 16 launched.

Apple previewed AI-powered features for its iPhones at its June 2024 and later labeled the iPhone 16 as built for Apple Intelligence when it went on sale in September 2024. The company then rolled out features including Image Playground, Genmoji and a ChatGPT integration in Siri, but delayed the more personalized Siri it had shown, which is now expected later this year.

The case drew pressure from outside the courtroom too. Last April, the recommended that Apple stop using or modify its available now claim for the Apple Intelligence page on its website, and Apple also pulled an iPhone 16 ad featuring actor using the upgraded Siri. Apple denied wrongdoing, and said it resolved the matter to stay focused on doing what it does best: delivering what it described as its most innovative products and services to users.

That leaves one part of the dispute still hanging over Apple even after the settlement: whether the company can persuade customers that its AI promises are now matching the pace of its product launches. The answer matters because the next version of Siri remains the feature most closely tied to the marketing that triggered the lawsuit in the first place.
