Firehouse Subs is handing out one free medium Steak & Cheese Melt on Wednesday, May 6, to guests whose names fit the Mike family. The one-day offer is open at participating U.S. restaurants and does not require a purchase.
Qualifying guests must bring a valid government-issued ID showing a name such as Mike, Michael, Mikey, Miguel, Michelle, Michele or Michaela, and each eligible person can redeem the deal only once that day. The sandwich itself is the chain’s new Steak & Cheese Melt, built with USDA Choice prime rib, flame-seared meat, provolone, brown sugar caramelized onions and red and green bell peppers on a signature top-cut roll.
The company is tying the giveaway to the launch of the new sub, which it says delivers 42 grams of protein in a medium size. Firehouse Subs President Mike Hancock said the brand is proud of the sandwich’s prime rib, caramelized onions and top-cut roll, and said that sharing it with every Mike in America felt like a good way to get things started.
Founded in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994 by two former firefighting brothers, Firehouse Subs has long linked its menu to its public safety mission. The chain says a portion of every purchase benefits the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which it says has awarded more than $107 million to local first responders across North America to date.
That foundation piece is what gives the promotion more than a simple free-sandwich hook. Firehouse Subs is using a playful name-based giveaway to put a new steak sub in front of customers, but it is also reminding them that the brand’s sales help support first responders, a message that has been part of its identity since the company began.
