Eiza González is preparing to take on the role of Janie John in Iron Jane, a new drama about competitive female bodybuilding from director Lissette Feliciano. The project will be presented to international buyers at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival, with Highland Film Group backing the film.
González’s character is a woman shaped by childhood abandonment who turns to bodybuilding in search of power, recognition and a new identity. The film follows her through punishing training, performance-enhancing substances, psychological dependence and a growing break from reality. Brandon Sklenar is also part of the cast, playing an ex-champion who trains Janie John, and he is producing through Vista Lane Pictures.
Feliciano described the film as a story about discovering that real strength often comes through surrender, a line that fits a production being framed as both physically demanding and psychologically charged. The team behind Iron Jane also includes Sugar Rush Pictures, Gramercy Park and Atlas Entertainment, a combination that suggests a prestige drama built for buyers looking beyond a conventional sports story.
For González, the part extends a run that has already included Baby Driver, I Care a Lot and 3 Body Problem, but this one could push her into new territory. The role asks her to carry a character’s physical transformation and emotional collapse at the same time, which is why Iron Jane may do more than travel well in Cannes: it could shift how Hollywood sees her.
