Jesse Williams secretly married Spanish actress Alejandra Onieva, according to a report Monday that said the couple had been tying the knot in private for several months. The 43-year-old actor has made no announcement about the ceremony.
Williams met Onieva while filming the Prime Video movie Hotel Costiera on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, and the two started dating in September last year after being spotted kissing in Milan during the film’s promotion. They later confirmed their relationship at the Rome premiere.
The marriage marks a new chapter for Williams, who was previously married to Aryn Drake-Lee and has two children with her. Their divorce was finalized in October 2020 after nearly five years of marital life.
Williams first became widely known for playing a character on Grey’s Anatomy for many years, but he also spent years speaking publicly on racial issues and advocating for Black communities through speeches, documentaries and teaching. That history made him one of Hollywood’s more visible voices on social questions, even as his personal life drew less attention than his public work.
The secrecy around the wedding stands out because neither Williams nor Onieva has said when the ceremony took place, and there is still no statement from the couple confirming it. What is clear is that the relationship moved quickly from an on-set meeting in Italy to a private marriage, closing the loop on a romance that had already been playing out in public glimpses from Milan to Rome.
For Williams, the answer to the question around his relationship status is now plain: he is married again, and he did it without a public rollout.
