Joe Burrow turned up at the Met Gala on May 4 for the second consecutive year, and this time the quarterback said he brought a friend from college with him. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at fashion's biggest night, Burrow said he got Justin Jefferson there and that the two spent part of the day watching Sex and the City while getting ready.
“It was fun. I got my friend Justin (Jefferson) here, and we went to college together. So, it's always a great time when I get to see him. It's always a fun day to just sit around. We watched some 'Sex and the City' and just hung out a little bit,” Burrow said. The 29-year-old did not say which character on the show fit him best, answering only, “I don't know about that,” and then adding, “That might not be a question for me. That might be a question for somebody else that knows me.”
The appearance fit a familiar pattern for Burrow, who showed up in custom Bode and Cartier jewelry with Kyle Smith as his stylist. The Met Gala remains a rare setting for a quarterback, but Burrow has leaned into it for back-to-back years, using the night as much for the company as the clothes. Sarah Jessica Parker, whose name is closely tied to the show Burrow mentioned, has her own Cincinnati connection: she lived in the city from 1969 to 1976, attended Clifton Elementary School, the School for Creative & Performing Arts and studied with the Cincinnati Ballet.
Burrow did not make the Met Gala sound like a performance or a one-off pose. He made it sound like a night out with a friend, and that is why the appearance lands: one of the NFL's most recognizable players is now showing up at fashion's biggest stage as if he belongs there.
