House Of The Dragon Season 3 trailer teases Rhaena, Sheepstealer and Gullet

By Tyler Brooks May 5, 2026

House of the Dragon will return for Season 3 next month, and the new trailer points to a faster, leaner turn through the Dance of the Dragons than some readers of Fire & Blood expected. The opening battle is the , is shown on Moondancer, and appears to be the character being steered toward the wild dragon Sheepstealer.

That matters because the Season 2 finale already showed Rhaena coming across Sheepstealer, and the new footage suggests the show is leaning into that bond instead of introducing , the dragonseed who claims the beast in Fire & Blood. In the book, Nettles later flies into the Battle of the Gullet alongside Jacaerys Velaryon on Vermax, Hugh Hammer on Vermithor and Ulf White on Silverwing. The trailer instead places Baela in that fight, which points to a different path for the story on screen.

The change also affects , whose book arc sends him into the Riverlands after helping Rhaenyra take King’s Landing, hunting for while the war spreads across the countryside. The trailer shows Daemon with bannermen of Houses Tully and Stark, and the show appears to be turning him into a commander of armies rather than sending him on the same search-and-chase journey he has in Fire & Blood. That is a clean break from the page, where Daemon is not present at the Fishfeed or the Butcher’s Ball even though those battles fall in the stretch of the story Season 3 is set to adapt.

None of this is surprising to viewers who have followed the series through its first two seasons. Fire & Blood is an in-universe history of House Targaryen assembled from conflicting accounts, and House of the Dragon has already moved well beyond simple adaptation. The bigger question now is not whether the show will depart from the book again, but whether it can make those departures feel inevitable when Season 3 opens with the Battle of the Gullet next month.
