Ayo Dosunmu remained on the injury report Monday with right calf soreness and was listed as questionable for Minnesota’s Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs. He was expected to be a game-time decision for the opener on May 4.
The status comes after Dosunmu sat out Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets because of calf tightness, a setback for a player who had been central to Minnesota’s first-round run. In Game 3 on April 23, he scored 25 points in 31 minutes. He followed that with 43 points in Game 4 on April 24, then started Game 5 on April 26 and scored 18 points on 50.0% shooting.
That first-round series was only the second time Dosunmu had played in the playoffs in his career, which made his production against Denver even more striking. Minnesota now opens a new series, and the team’s immediate question is whether the guard’s calf will allow him to take the floor after what has already been described as a lingering problem.
The tension is straightforward: Dosunmu has been one of Minnesota’s most productive players in the postseason, but his availability has not been stable. If he cannot go, the Timberwolves enter Game 1 without the guard who helped carry them through the Nuggets series. If he can, they will have to manage a player whose calf issue has already forced him out once and put him back on the report again.
For Minnesota, the start of this series is about more than one injury note. It is about whether the player who delivered 25 points, then 43, then 18 in consecutive games can turn up again when the next round begins.
