Charli Xcx arrives at 2026 Met Gala in Saint Laurent black gown

By Olivia Spencer May 5, 2026

arrived at the 2026 Met Gala in a long black gown with a strapless silhouette and ruching throughout, a look made with ’s and her longtime stylist, . A delicate sculptural flower in green and blush was pinned to the bodice, and she finished the look with silver earrings and rings and a high ponytail.

It was her third consecutive Met Gala appearance and her fourth overall, a run that has tracked her style from a neon-yellow gown with over-the-top ruffle detailing and a thigh-high slit in 2019 to a deconstructed Marni T-shirt dress in 2024 and a Gothic Ann Demeulemeester gown by Stefano Gallic at a more recent gala. This year’s event, co-chaired by , and , centered on the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, Costume Art, curated by and focused on the relationship between fashion and the body.

That focus made Charli XCX’s arrival fit the night’s brief without trying too hard to explain it. The exhibition’s sections — Pregnant Body, Naked Body and Aging Body — framed fashion as something inseparable from the body that wears it, and her look played to that idea with a clean, sculptural shape instead of the louder styling she has worn before.

Charli XCX first appeared in 2019 for the Camp: Notes on Fashion edition, then returned in 2024 in Marni, and came back in 2026 with a more restrained Saint Laurent gown that still had a distinct point of view. The question for the night was never whether she would show up; it was how she would translate a theme about the body into something personal, and she answered it with a pared-back black dress that put the construction front and center.
