LEGO is breaking one of its own Speed Champions rules. The 77264 Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 & Land Rover Defender Classic will be the first set in the line to mix brands when it goes on sale Aug. 1.
The 740-piece set is one of three new LEGO Speed Champions releases coming this year, and it will sell for £44.99, $59.99 or €54.99. It includes both a Jaguar vehicle and a Land Rover vehicle, putting two badge names into a single boxed build for the first time in the series.
That matters because Speed Champions has usually stayed with one brand per set, making this launch a small but notable departure. Jaguar and Land Rover were merged by Tata Motors in 2013 to form Jaguar Land Rover, but they are still treated as separate brands inside the same company, which is why the new set is being read as a test of how far LEGO is willing to push the format.
The timing also gives the move extra weight. With the set due Aug. 1, LEGO is not just adding another model to the lineup; it is opening the door to the idea that future cross-brand builds could follow, including combinations such as a BMW and Mini set or an Audi and Lamborghini build.
For collectors, the question is no longer whether LEGO can pair two marques in one Speed Champions box. It already has. The real answer is that 77264 turns a line built on brand purity into one that may be more willing to blur the boundaries from here.
