Emirates adds weekly Toronto freighter as Canada-UAE trade rises

By Robert Haines May 4, 2026

has launched a new dedicated weekly Boeing 777 freighter service to , giving the airline a direct cargo link between Dubai, Amsterdam and Canada’s biggest air freight gateway. The service began at the end of April 2026 and operates every Friday.

The flight is meant to move heavier, specialized freight that no longer fits neatly into passenger aircraft belly space, including Canadian electronics and European pharmaceuticals. The Boeing 777 Freighter can carry 103 tonnes, and the new service adds an extra 100 tonnes of cargo capacity into the market each week.

Toronto Pearson already handles nearly 45% of Canada’s total air freight, making it the natural landing point for a route built around demand rather than symbolism. Commerce between Canada and the UAE surged by 24% between 2023 and 2024, a jump that helps explain why is adding capacity now instead of waiting for the market to cool.

The new freighter originates at , stops at and lands in Toronto, with the return leg flying directly from Toronto Pearson back to Dubai. That shift matters because it takes cargo off the tighter constraints of passenger flights and puts it on a dedicated freighter, while still supplementing Emirates’ existing daily passenger services in the market.

The route gives shippers a steadier option for freight that needs more room, more consistency and less dependence on passenger schedules. For a market already moving faster between Canada and the UAE, the question now is how quickly exporters and forwarders fill the new space on Fridays.
