Bbc Sport maps England and Scotland World Cup costs as prices soar

By Lauren Price May 3, 2026

Sport has mapped the route through the 2026 World Cup group stage and put a price on what it would take for England and Scotland supporters to follow their teams. For England fans, the bill comes to about £6,500 each. For Scotland supporters, it is even steeper.

The estimates show two England supporters would need about £13,000 in total, while a family of four with two pre-teen children would need more than £22,000 to follow England. Scotland fans would face eight nights in Boston, with two supporters spending about £7,500 each and a family of four needing more than £25,000.

The numbers help explain why the 2026 World Cup has already been marked by high ticket prices, expensive accommodation and train fares above normal rates. Sport based its calculations on the best value hotel within four miles of each city centre and the cheapest available tickets on Fifa's official resale site. The prices were correct at the time of writing, but they were subject to change.

The hardest costs to pin down are often the everyday ones. Meals, drinks, snacks and local transport can vary over a 14- to 15-day trip, and in the US, tipping adds another layer to routine spending. That makes the final bill harder to predict than the ticket and hotel totals alone, especially in cities where accommodation options are already scarce.

What Sport's route makes plain is that the trip is likely to be a major financial commitment before a supporter even buys a meal or books a taxi. For many fans, the question is no longer whether the football is worth the journey, but whether the journey is within reach at all.
