Premier Boxing Champions is heading into the summer with a card it hopes will help shape the rest of its year, with Lamont Roach Jnr and William Zepeda expected to headline a bout that could come as soon as June. The fight would be co-promoted by PBC and Golden Boy Promotions.
Roach enters at 25-1-3 with 10 knockouts and comes off consecutive disputed draws against Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz. Zepeda, 33-1 with 27 knockouts, suffered his first loss in July to Shakur Stevenson. The winner of Roach versus Zepeda would be in prime position to claim the vacant WBC title, giving the matchup extra weight beyond the summer calendar.
PBC has been building toward more than one return. It is aiming for Davis to get back in the ring by early fall, coming off his WBA lightweight title draw against Roach at Barclays Center in New York. A source more connected to the PBC situation said Cruz is the most likely opponent for Davis at this hour. Cruz, the WBC interim 140lbs champion, is 28-3-2 with 18 knockouts and fought Davis to a tightly contested unanimous decision loss in Los Angeles in 2021.
The promotion is also set to stage a news conference Saturday morning at MGM Grand featuring Errol Spence Jnr and Tim Tszyu. Spence is scheduled to return on July 25 in Australia in a Prime Video pay-per-view junior-middleweight bout against Tszyu after a near three-year hiatus. PBC is also advancing a bout between David Benavidez, 31-0 with 25 knockouts, and Gilberto Ramirez at T-Mobile Arena.
The through line is clear: PBC is trying to turn a summer slate into a reset, with Roach-Zepeda carrying title implications, Davis lining up for a likely return and other major names moving back onto the board. The next test is whether the planned cards hold together long enough to deliver the stretch run the promotion is counting on.
