Udinese Vs Torino: Mid-table meeting carries rare double chase

By Kevin Mitchell May 2, 2026

and meet on Saturday afternoon separated by two points in the Serie A standings, with a mid-table clash that still carries real weight for both sides. Udinese won the reverse fixture 2-1 in January and could complete their first league double over Torino since 2008.

That is not a small target for a team trying to turn a solid season into something better. Udinese finished 12th last term and are chasing a rare top-half finish, while Torino have moved up since arrived two months ago and now have 14 points from eight games in that spell, along with the league's joint-third best attack on 14 goals. The form on both sides gives the meeting a sharper edge than the table alone suggests.

Udinese arrive after a 3-3 draw with on Monday evening in Rome, when scored and struck twice. Before that, they had drawn with Atalanta and Como since the start of March, but they also beat Genoa and Fiorentina in the same run. The mix leaves them in a race that still has a long way to go, especially with five games left.

Torino come in after a 2-2 home draw with Inter Milan last week, when scored and equalized from the spot. The result underlined how far they have come under D'Aversa, but it also left them only two points ahead of Udinese in a tightly packed section of the table.

Udinese's biggest problem may be at home, where they have failed to score in their last three home fixtures. Keinan Davis, their 10-goal top scorer, remains the key attacking reference, but Jurgen Ekkelenkamp suffered a knock to his left ankle during Monday's match at Stadio Olimpico. Jordan Zemura and Nicolo Bertola are injured, Alessandro Zanoli is a long-term absentee, and Jesper Karlstrom could return after serving a one-match ban. If Davis sits out again, Adam Buksa, Vakoun Bayo and Idrissa Gueye are all available to step in.

For Udinese, the game is about more than keeping pace with Torino. It is a chance to end a damaging run in front of their own fans and keep alive a rare league double over an opponent they have not managed since 2008. For Torino, it is another test of whether D'Aversa's revival has enough staying power to hold off a direct rival in the final stretch.
