Tom Brady's Raiders role draws a clear line from the top

says is not hovering over the ’ football operation, and the team is not treating the minority owner like a daily meddler. Spytek said this week that Brady has empowered him and head coach to run the franchise day to day the way they see fit.

Spytek made the comments in an interview with on Up & Adams after Adams asked whether it would be hard to keep Brady out of the quarterback room. “I don’t think it’s going to be hard,” Spytek said, adding that he and Kubiak “both welcome Tom’s insight and his input.”

The remarks matter because there has been plenty of discussion since Brady became a minority owner of the Raiders about how much he would be involved with the team. Spytek said Brady has operated in a way that should not surprise anyone and has given the football staff the support it needs to handle the work itself. He described the Raiders as a “very process-driven organization right now,” with accountability running through every part of the building.

That is especially true, he said, in the quarterback room, which he called the most important room in the building from a player standpoint. Spytek said it is the hardest position in sports to play and said there will be a high level of accountability and demand there. He said he and Kubiak want to accentuate the right things and hold people accountable, with the quarterback room at the center of that effort.

“Tom has empowered us to run the day-to-day of the Raiders the way that we see fit,” Spytek said. He said he and Kubiak appreciate the way Brady operates, the knowledge he shares and the way he allows them to do things the right way day to day.

There is still a lot to be determined when it comes to the success of the Raiders and the people around them this season and beyond, but Spytek and Kubiak are going to bear much of the responsibility for the results. Brady may be a minority owner, but the daily work, Spytek made clear, belongs to the football staff.
