Wonderful Monds Iv commits to Notre Dame over Florida State, Ohio State

By Kevin Mitchell May 1, 2026

landed a quarterback for its 2027 class on Friday, when four-star prospect picked the Irish over and in a live announcement on The Pat McAfee Show at Vero Beach High School.

Monds, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound recruit from Vero Beach, Florida, is 's No. 14 pocket passer in the 2027 class and the No. 208 overall recruit. His pledge gives Notre Dame its ninth SC Next 300 commitment in the cycle and comes after the program had already taken two quarterbacks in the 2026 class, Teddy Jarrard and Noah Grubbs.

The decision capped a recruitment that tightened over the weekend of April 18, after Notre Dame coach , offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach helped make their case. Monds visited the school earlier this month, watched current starter during one of the Irish's final spring practices and met former Notre Dame quarterbacks Riley Leonard and Sam Hartman. He said that seeing the scheme up close and comparing it with the clips the staff showed him convinced him the fit was real.

"Not only did they show me multiple clips with quarterbacks that have similar play styles to me, but I got to see it in practice, as well," Monds said. "When it comes to my throwing ability, I got to see things that I can do just like CJ Carr was doing in that practice." He added that the work with Denbrock and Guidugli made him believe they can develop him into the best quarterback he can be.

The commitment also fits Notre Dame's broader plan at the position. The Irish had been chasing quarterbacks in the 2027 class after Teddy Jarrard reclassified into the 2026 cycle late last year, and Carr is eligible for the NFL draft after the 2026 season after starting all 12 games last fall. That leaves Monds with a clear path to arrive as the next candidate in a competition that could open in 2027.

Monds reclassified from the Class of 2028 to the 2027 cycle on Dec. 31, 2025, and his rise has been matched by a national recruiting profile that continued to grow this spring. He visited Florida, Florida State and Ohio State earlier in the season before turning to Notre Dame, where he now says the challenge is the point. "I'm going to be coming in to compete," he said.

Notre Dame has since shifted some of its attention to the 2028 quarterback class and has extended offers to Neimann Lawrence and Kingston Preyear this week, but Friday's news gives Freeman and his staff another high-end arm in a class that is already taking shape. For Monds, the next step is less about ceremony than the work ahead: he will enter his third year as Vero Beach's starting quarterback this fall, then head to South Bend with a pledge that was sealed under the lights at home.
