Berke Buyuktuncel: Quentin Rhymes plans Nebraska transfer after limited freshman year

By Chris Lawson Apr 8, 2026

plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal after a limited freshman season at Nebraska, according to a report from of . The Nebraska forward is the first offseason departure for the Cornhuskers after their Sweet Sixteen run ended against Iowa.

Rhymes arrived in Lincoln as a 6-foot-7 wing out of in Phoenix with a profile built on scoring and athletic upside. In his post-grad season in 2023-24, he averaged 22.4 points per game and shot 41 percent from three-point range, then signed with Nebraska over offers from , , UNLV and UC Santa Barbara. But that production never translated into meaningful court time at Nebraska, where he played only in an exhibition win over Midland and logged just under seven minutes off the bench, finishing with two points, one rebound and a block.

Nebraska coach praised Rhymes' progress last summer, saying he had really improved since the Huskers got him, could be as athletic as anybody on the team and had bought into film sessions while trying to learn the system. Even so, the move now points to a player whose college role never matched the reputation he brought with him out of prep school.

The timing matters because the NCAA transfer portal opens April 7 and runs through April 21, giving players a 15-day window to officially enter. They do not have to commit to a new program by the closing date, so Rhymes' next stop may not be known right away. For Nebraska, his decision marks the first roster exit of the offseason, just as the program turns from its postseason breakthrough to another round of roster management.
