Bianca Andreescu will try to fight her way back into Roland Garros through qualifying when the tournament begins on May 18. The former US Open champion is among the players seeking one of 16 main-draw places in Paris.
Andreescu reached the third round at Roland Garros in both 2023 and 2024, but missed the 2025 tournament because of injuries. She is not alone in the qualifying draw: Karolina Pliskova and Sloane Stephens are also entered, with Stephens having finished runner-up in 2018 and Pliskova reaching the semifinals in 2017.
The qualifying event will decide 16 spots in the French Open main draw, and eight wild cards are expected to complete the field of 128 players. That leaves a narrow path for Andreescu, Stephens and Pliskova as they look to earn a return to Paris after absenting themselves from the 2025 tournament.
There is also a reminder of how difficult the climb can be. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the 2021 runner-up, is part of the same qualifying picture, which gives the field a mix of recent injuries, proven major results and players trying to reset their seasons in one week.
