Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that Fallout 4 and Skyrim are on the way to the Switch 2, and both games are available now in physical code-in-box and digital versions. The move puts two of the company’s oldest and most replayed titles back in front of players just as frustration builds over the absence of a new Fallout game.
The Switch 2 editions are Anniversary Editions, extending the life of Fallout 4 and Skyrim rather than replacing them with something new. Skyrim was first released in 2011, making it a 15-year-old game now, while Fallout 4 is an 11-year-old release that still draws players back in large numbers. Bethesda says Fallout 5 is likely not coming in this decade, and The Elder Scrolls VI continues to occupy much of the company’s workforce, which helps explain why the studio keeps returning to older worlds instead of moving the story forward.
That reality is exactly what has angered many Fallout fans. They keep seeing new versions of games they already own while the next mainline entry stays out of reach. Reader responses captured that mood bluntly, with one saying, “I’m begging gamers. Please stop re-buying the same game you’ve already bought once. If these companies can’t figure out how to make new things, they deserve to die,” while another wrote, “Thanks guys... I mean, I’ve always wanted to pay full price for a 15 and an 11-year-old game that comes in a box with a piece of paper on it... Oh, wait... I’ll pass.”
The tension is simple. Bethesda can keep selling proven hits because players keep buying and replaying them, but that same cycle makes a new Fallout feel farther away, not closer. For now, the company has answered the demand for Fallout with another round of Fallout 4.
