Trinity Rodman scored in the 15th minute and the Washington Spirit beat Racing Louisville FC 1-0 on a night that pushed Washington deeper into the Nwsl standings picture. Sofia Cantore drove down the right sideline before finding Rodman for the only goal.
The goal was Rodman’s second in as many games and gave her 30 regular season goals, making her the second player in team history to reach that mark and the third-youngest player in NWSL history to do it. Washington won for the third time in a row and kept its fourth-straight clean sheet.
The result also extended the Spirit’s unbeaten run to six matches at 3-0-3. Sandy MacIver set a club record for consecutive shutout minutes for a goalkeeper at 324 minutes and counting, a sign of how difficult Washington has become to break down after a rough start to the season.
The timing matters because the Spirit now head into a road game against Orlando on Saturday in the middle of a three-game road stretch. If Washington keeps defending like this, the recent surge will stop looking like a run and start looking like the shape of its season.
