The New England Revolution host Orlando City SC on Wednesday night in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, with the winner moving on to the quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
New England arrives after a 1-1 draw at Inter Miami CF in MLS play and a penalty shootout win over Rhode Island FC in the Open Cup, a match that ended 1-1 before the Revolution advanced 1-1. Donovan Parisian made three saves in the shootout, and New England remained perfect at home at 4-0-0.
The Revolution also carried better league form into the match. They were fourth in the Eastern Conference at 5-3-1 with 16 points, and had scored 17 goals while conceding 12 in nine regular-season games. Luca Langoni led the club in goal contributions with one goal and six assists, and he appeared in all nine regular-season games, starting seven.
Orlando City comes in after a 3-2 loss at D.C. United in MLS play, though it beat Charlotte FC 4-1 in its previous two-game week. In the Open Cup, Orlando advanced past FC Naples with a 1-0 win in the Round of 32, with Tyrese Spicer scoring the lone goal and taking four shots.
The match lands at a busy point for both clubs, who were handling congested schedules and had used heavily rotated lineups in their previous Open Cup games. Orlando had scored six goals over its previous two games after managing only six goals for the season before that stretch, while New England had won four straight before its draw at Miami. The winner on Wednesday will be back in action for the quarterfinal round on May 19 or May 20.
