Ving Rhames collapses at Los Angeles restaurant, is expected to recover

The received a call at about 1:40 PM for a male in his 60s, according to the facts provided, and the person was taken to a local medical facility. A representative said Rhames overheated while out to eat and was expected to be fine, though he remained at the hospital for observation.

Rhames, 66, is known for films including Mission: Impossible, Pulp Fiction and Bringing Out the Dead, and he has remained active in Hollywood. According to , he has two films in post-production, and reported that he filmed Mongoose in early 2025 alongside and . He was also cast in the upcoming film Painter in 2025.

The scare came just weeks after Rhames spoke about Uppercut in February 2025, saying the smaller-scale film reminded him why he got into movies. He said lower budgets force more creative choices, contrasting that experience with Mission: Impossible, which he noted was made for over $200 million. He also pointed to ’s $75 million payday as an example of how much money can go into a big production.

Rhames said he had been drawn to Uppercut because of the script and the chemistry he found with Luise, adding that bringing Torsten into the mix made the choice easy. He also said the film was not really a boxing movie, but a story about two strangers from different worlds getting to know each other in a boxing arena.
