Daniela Ruah says Kensi Blye and Marty Deeks are back on the job three years after NCIS: Los Angeles ended its 14-season run on CBS. Speaking on the NCIS: Partners & Probies podcast with Brian Dietzen and Diona Reasonover, Ruah said the couple she played opposite Eric Christian Olsen likely returned to work after the series finale.
“In my opinion, I think they’re back to work,” Ruah said. “I think they both love what they do far too much. I think they’re both back to work, and I think Mama Deeks is probably helping out with raising little ninja baby Kensi. It was never established, but I don’t know. I feel like Kensi would have a tough little girl.”
That answer gives fans a clear picture of where Ruah sees the pair now: still in service, still together, and now raising children after a finale that left their family expanded in more than one way. At the end of the show, Kensi and Deeks adopted a teen runaway, and Ruah said Kensi also discovered she was pregnant.
Ruah said the relationship always felt like it was building toward that kind of ending. Kensi and Deeks began with banter before going on a date in season 5, then married in season 10. “I thought it was a progression that made sense,” she said. “I think we always knew off the bat that it would somehow lead in that direction. And Eric and I have great chemistry.”
The comments also carry a little extra weight because Ruah is tied to the franchise beyond the original series. She is married to Eric Christian Olsen’s brother, David Olsen, made a brief cameo in NCIS’s landmark 1000th episode, and has directed episodes of both NCIS and the NCIS: Hawaii spin-off. For viewers who wondered whether Kensi and Deeks would settle into family life or keep chasing cases, Ruah answered the question plainly: in her view, they are doing both.
